This week in English Language Arts class, we learned about simple tense, progressive tense, and perfect tense. There are verb forms indicate tense or the time of action. Simple tenses are present tense, the past tense, and the future tense. Progressive tenses are made up of the auxiliary verb "to be" and the present participle (-ing ending) of the main verb. For example, present progressive tense: She is playing soccer. past progressive tense: She was playing soccer. future tense: she will be playing soccer. Perfect tenses consists of a form of the auxiliary verb "have" and the past participle of the main verb. For example, present perfect tense: He has eaten a cupcake. Past perfect tense: he had eaten a cupcake. Future perfect tense| he will have eaten a cupcake by 5:00 pm today. In the perfect tenses, the passive voice is formed by inserting "been." For example, that cat has been groomed. https://www.englishclub.com/grammar/verb-tenses.htm

This week on Tuesday, it was All Saints Day, so our class had a saint to do research on and we dressed up as them. I learned so much about so many saints. My Saint was St. Mary Mackillop. Mary was born on January 15, 1842, in Fitzroy, Melbourne, Australia. She died on August 8, 1909, in North Sydney, Australia. Her feast day is August 8th. She has six siblings, one of her younger brothers died when he was only eleven months old. Her father is Alexander Mackillop. Her mother is Flora MacDonald. Mary Mackillop received her First Holy Communion on August 15, 1850 at the age of eight. She was educated at private schools and by her father. Mary was canonized on October 17, 2010, in Vatican City. She was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI. Her first miracle was, a woman with a disease, prayed to Mary Mackillop and the disease disappeared. The second miracle of Mary Mackillop's was, Kathleen Evans was diagnosed with lung and brain cancer. Given only a month to live, she wore a relic of Mary Mackillop's nightly and prayed. Ten months after, tests showed no signs in cancer.
This week I learned about different types of nouns. There are plural nouns, singular nouns, possessive nouns, and appositives. A plural noun is a word that indicates that there is more than one person, animal place, thing, or idea. When you talk about more than one of anything, you're using plural nouns. When you write about more than one of anything, you usually use the same word, simply adding an -s, -es, or -ies to the end. A singular noun is names one person, place, thing, or idea, while a plural noun names more than one person, place, thing, or idea. A possessive noun is the case of a noun or pronoun that shows possession. Nouns are usually made possessive by adding an apostrophe and 's'. Possessive pronouns can take the place of possessive nouns. An appositive When a noun or word is followed by another noun or phrase that renames or identifies it, this is called appositive. This is a literary device that appears before or after a noun or noun phrase. It is always used with commas. There are also appositive phrases. They just give more information on the positive.
This week I learned about Theme. What is a theme? A theme is what the writer of a story or novel would like to express or tell advice in the story. A theme needs supporting evidence. How would you find a good theme? To have a good theme, you would first need your beginning theme, a theme that you are set on for a story. You then look at the main character and your other characters and if they changed, from good or bad. Watch for statements of the theme, like what you are trying to tell. Look at a title for clues that give some information on your theme. Also, look at the main conflict (main problem) of your story and see if your theme relates to it. Make generalizations as well. And remember, Theme is not a Subject. A Subject is the main idea of the story, not the theme. Sometimes, the theme is mentioned at the end of the story.
